Trust is a fundamental aspect and indicator of parent-child relationship quality. The aim of this research is to gain understanding of the factors that in uence trust and distrust to father. A total of 509 undergraduate students living in Yogyakarta participated in this research by completing an open-ended questionnaire developed by Kim (2008). The data was analyzed qualitatively and thematically by using indigenous psychological approach and categorized based on the appearing themes. The results indicate that adolescents’ trust or distrust in father is caused by several factors: their fathers’ support, role model, role as a parent, emotional bonding, reliability, and honesty. Father-child relationship is based on the children’s respect to their fathers, and it is parallel with Javanese philosophy “mikul dhuwur mendhem jero”.
